MAFIA (software)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MAFIA software package is a tool set for the numerical simulation of electromagnetic fields. It is used to simulate and calculate two- and three-dimensional electromagnetic fields, structures and particle-field interactions. The functionalities are based on the Finite Integration Technique (FIT) and map the Maxwell equations onto finite numerical grids. Since 1987 the software has been further developed at the TU Darmstadt .

The program package includes the following individual modules:

  • S: Electrostatic-magnetostatic problems, stationary currents, stationary heat conduction
  • T3: 3D time domain solver for waveguide and open problems
  • TS3: 3D time domain solver coupled field-charged particle simulations
  • TS2: 2D time domain solver (cylinder symmetric) for coupled field-charged particle simulations
  • E: Eigenmode solver
  • W3: Frequency domain solver in Cartesian and cylindrical coordinates
  • T2: Time domain solver in cylindrically symmetrical structures
  • TL3: 3D time domain solver for low frequency problems

In addition to classic electromagnetic applications, there are also solvers for acoustics, elastodynamics and heat conduction.

MAFIA was sold commercially by CST -Computer Simulation Technology , but is now being replaced by successor products that are combined in the CST STUDIO SUITE.
