MP Lafer

The MP Lafer is a Brazilian cult car. In Brazil it is called an icon (legend) and is not only very popular there.

Model history

The MP Lafer was built in series by Percival Lafer in his company Lafer Indústria e Comércio from 1974 to 1990 in São Paulo . Percival Lafer is a designer and furniture manufacturer. The car was made in Lafers furniture factory. The model for the body is the structure of the English MG TD (built around 1952). The aim was to create a robust and reliable everyday car in the style of a classic car. A VW Beetle chassis, including chassis and drive, served as the technical basis . The body is made of glass fiber reinforced plastic .

A total of around 4,300 copies of the vehicle were made, around 1,000 of which were exported. Around 150 vehicles had been delivered in Germany by 1983. The 1983 price was around DM 35,000.
