Machame

Machame is a village in Tanzania southwest of the Kibo at the foot of Kilimanjaro . The place itself is insignificant, but namesake for the most scenic ascent route to Kilimanjaro and the Machame Gate of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park as the starting point of the route. At the end of the 19th century, Machame (then: Madschame) served as a mission station , Ewald Ovir , among others, worked here .
