Machene

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Machene (ΜΑΧΗΝΗ) was a queen of the Indo-Scythians named on some coins of King Maues (ruled in the first half of the 1st century BC). Nothing further is known about their origin and exact location. It was assumed that she came from an Indo-Greek family from Taxila (the coins may have been minted there) and that Maues wanted to establish a connection with them when he married. In any case, the name Machene is not Greek. Possibly she was also the mother of the Mau.
