Madelon

Madelon  is a hand puppet from the Lyon puppet theater "Théatre de Guignol". She is the only female character who returns regularly. Mostly as the wife of Guignol  and sometimes as the daughter of  Gnafron .

She has a strong, sullen character that diminishes towards the end of the 19th century. She traditionally wears a dress made of floral linen, an apron, a small white scarf around her neck and a cap .

In the  Musée des arts de la marionnette , in Lyon, the first three hand puppets created by Laurent Mourguet at the beginning of the 19th century are on display. They were donated to the museum in 1949 by Pierre Neichthauser, a descendant of Mourget and at that time director of the theater.
