Madiun is a city in the western part of East Java Province in Indonesia and an agricultural center. Madiun is the capital of the administrative district of the same name ( Kabupaten ).

Madiun is 169 km southwest of Surabaya and 114 km east of Surakarta and had a population of 190,823 in 1992. The city is on average 63 meters above sea level and sits on the Madiun River, a tributary of the Bengawan Solo River. It is surrounded by a series of mountains, such as the Gunung Wilis (2169 m) in the east, the Kapur-Selatan chain (500-1000 m) in the south and the Gungung Lawu (3285 m) in the west. Madiun has an average temperature of 20 to 35 degrees Celsius.

history

Madiun was the scene of an uprising ( Madiun events ) in 1948 led by sections of the Communist Party of Indonesia (PKI). Among other things, Manowar Musso was killed.
