The term Mahalla stands for a collection of ships. During the First World War it was the unofficial name for a fleet of German merchant ships that were fitted with false superstructures, dummy guns, etc. in order to simulate a war fleet for the British enemy .
The word probably comes from the Arabic term Mahalla (German neighborhood , city district , army camp ).
