Mail - Messages from the Beyond ( Japaneseメ イ ルmeiru ) is a horror manga by the Japanese illustrator Housui Yamazaki . He is to be assigned to his genre.

Mail consists of completed short stories and tells the adventures of the private detective Reiji Akiba, who chases psychic phenomena.

Akiba, practically blind since childhood, regained his eyesight as a young man through operations. As a side effect, however, he can now see ghosts, some of which cling to his heels. Akiba receives help from the ghost of a priest and former ghost hunter, who chooses him as his successor and hands him the Kagutsuchi pistol . This shoots consecrated cartridges that can finally transport spirits into the afterlife.

Akiba is later reinforced by the ghost Mikoto, a childhood friend who was murdered and whom he conjures up again as an adult.

Publications

Mail was published in Japan from 2004 to 2005 in individual chapters in the manga magazine Shōnen Ace . The publishing house Kadokawa Shoten also summarized these individual chapters in three edited volumes. A US edition was published by Dark Horse , a French edition by Senpai.

All three volumes of the 2006 series were published in German by Egmont Manga and Anime .

Crossover

Since the end of Mail , Housui Yamazaki has been drawing the series The Kurosagi Corpse Delivery Service based on scenarios by Eiji Otsuka . In the 18th chapter of this series (republished in the fourth Tankōbon ) Reiji Akiba has another appearance.
