from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Majestic is a community-based, decentralized web crawler project supported by members of the Majestic community.

history

The original Majestic-12 project originated in 2004 and was founded by Alex Chudnovsky.

function

Majestic is a form of web search engine that refers to a distributed web crawler (or bot) called MJ12BOT. Majestic primarily maps the connections / links between two websites. This network is often referred to as a web graph. Data compression routines are used to store data for scalable analysis and query via an API or web-based interface. The data are processed by a network of independent computers and ISPs derived that the Internet from remote locations, so-called "nodes" ( node search). These are controlled by a central controller that sends a large number of URLs to each node for independent crawling. The node bots collect information about all links to the URLs in the respective list. The information is organized into two different records: the historical index and the updated index. The historical index is based on the crawl results of the last five years, while the updated index is based on the results of the last 90 days. Both absolute and relative data about the links are used to make assumptions about the ability and influence of a URL on the Internet by calculating the citation flow and trust flow . The data of the Majestic search engine can be accessed via APIs in JSON and XML format or via a web interface.

Statistics and general information

Absolute crawl statistics from 2004 are graphed daily. In 2014 the Topical Trust Flow was introduced to measure the relative influence of any URL on a specific topic. In 2016, Majestic won the Queen's Award in the “Innovation” category.
