Maccabees

The Maccabees or Maccabees is the name of four books related to the Old Testament, some of which are called apocryphal or deuterocanonical .

The Maccabees owe their title Judas Maccabaeus , of the revolt of the Maccabees led. The Greek name of the Maccabees has been handed down since the 2nd century .

The 1st and 2nd books of the Maccabees tell the story of the uprising. The third book describes the persecution of the Jews by Ptolemy IV and their rescue. The 4th book is a philosophical-ethical treatise.
