Malta Gaming Authority
The Malta Gaming Authority ( MGA ), formerly Lotteries and Gaming Authority ( LGA ), is a regulatory authority based in Malta . This regulates most types of gambling in the territory of Malta. These include land-based casinos , slot machines , betting shops , bookmakers , lotteries and online casino providers .
history
In 2001, the Lotteries and Other Games Act gave the MGA the task of regulating and monitoring providers of games of chance in Malta. The online gambling sector has become an important economic factor for Malta. This industry now generates 12% of Malta's GDP . 6,800 people are employed in the area monitored by the MGA. 88% of them work for companies in the online gambling sector.
tasks
Their main task is to ensure the fairness and transparency of the games. It is also their job to identify and prevent criminal activities. It is about combating money laundering and corruption as well as protecting minors and vulnerable players.
The MGA was one of the first authorities to include the regulation of online gaming providers among its tasks. The aim of the MGA is also to create a safe and tamper-proof environment for gamblers for gambling. The MGA has various tasks in connection with the regulation of gambling providers. This includes the granting and regulation of licenses and the protection of players' rights. The MGA has extensive powers and works with the Malta Police . The MGA can impose fines and withdraw licenses in order to carry out its tasks . Many casinos that offer games online in Germany have a license from Malta.
