Marzipan pig - a typical almond gave

In the Danish Christmas tradition, Mandelgave refers to an "almond gift".

Rice pudding is part of the traditional Danish Christmas dinner . A whole almond is hidden in it, the finder of which is rewarded with the Almond Gave. The pudding is served as a starter called “Julegrød” or as a dessert served cold rice pudding with chopped almonds ( ris à l'amande ) and thickened cherries.

In the past, those who found the almond in their portion received a marzipan pig as an almond gift. If the almond was not found and eaten unnoticed, the marzipan pork was distributed to all guests. Nowadays it is usually ensured that the youngest family member finds the almond, who then receives a small toy.
