Manuel Valerio (writer)

Manuel Valerio (born September 8, 1918 in Moca , † 1978 in Santo Domingo ) was a Dominican poet.

Valerio's poetry was shaped by experiences such as the American occupation of the Dominican Republic in his childhood, the murder of his father under the dictator Trujillo and natural disasters like the 1946 earthquake . He belonged to the literary movement around Octavio Guzmán Carretero and Aída Cartagena Portalatín , from which the group Poesía Sorprendita emerged . Among other things, he published the collection of poems Coral de Sombras .
