The Marc Picard company was a leather goods manufacturer with its headquarters in Altenbuch and went bankrupt in 2016.

history

Branch in Neu Isenburg

Edwin Picard began training as a fine bag maker in 1947 at the leather bag manufacturer André Kralle in Obertshausen . After completing his training, he also completed courses in design and pocket cuts at the Offenbach Master School . In 1954, Edwin Picard and his wife Anna Katharina Picard began to produce bags for leather goods factories on a contract basis. Due to a lack of workers in the Offenbach area, the production facility was relocated to Altenbuch im Spessart in 1961. Edwin and Anna Picard started production there with eight other workers. Business flourished and in 1964 around 50 people were employed. Edwin Picard developed his own collection. Agents were hired to sell this collection to specialist dealers.

The E. Picard company was founded in 1967. Edwin Picard decided in 1973 to sell his bags to end consumers himself. This is how the first own sales area was created in the Adler fashion center in Neckartenzlingen near Stuttgart. Following the economic trend in the industry, Edwin Picard went on his first business trip to Asia in 1977 to look for possible future production facilities. In 1978 the A. Picard company was founded, which was later renamed "Marc Picard Leather Goods". The own production in Altenbuch was stopped in 1981 for cost reasons. At this time, the sons Michael and Stefan Picard became increasingly involved in the company. Michael Picard designed models and collections that were to be manufactured abroad in the future. Stefan Picard developed a computer system with which all company activities could be controlled centrally. In 1984 there were 15 “Marc Picard” sales areas.

Stefan Picard joined the company in 1979 and was managing director of the group from around 1980 until he left in 1985. His brother Michael Picard joined the management in 1985. Bernd H. Gnau came to support the company as a controller at management level. Lydia Picard took on a leading position in the family company MARC PICARD with the management of purchasing. In 2003, the first “Marc Picard” branch was opened in other European countries to open up additional markets.

Own branches followed in Germany, Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, the Netherlands, Switzerland and Italy. The company is run solely by the Picard family, who are now in the 3rd generation of the family business.

The company had up to 49 branches at home and abroad and employed around 320 people.

An application for insolvency was filed on April 22, 2016 at the Aschaffenburg District Court. The company then went bankrupt.
