Marcel Proust Society

The Marcel Proust Gesellschaft eV was founded on November 18, 1982 on the 60th anniversary of Marcel Proust's death in Cologne . It sees itself as a forum for exchange between literary scholars and hedonistic readers. The declared aim is to make Proust's work accessible to a new and young readership in German-speaking countries.

To this end, the society regularly organizes international symposia, matinées, exhibitions, excursions and publishes several series of publications at Insel Verlag : volumes of material on symposia, the newsletter “Proustiana” and monographs on various Proust topics in the “Sur la lecture” series.

The Marcel Proust Society now has almost 500 members, making it one of the largest literary societies in Germany. The president has been the doctor and art collector Reiner Speck since it was founded , while the vice president - Prof. Dr. Rainer Moritz , General Secretary is Alexis Eideneier .
