March 713
The March 713 was a Formula 3 racing car designed by March Engineering in 1970 and built and used from 1971.
Development history
For the first time, the tubular space frame was replaced by a monocoque made of GRP, which initially brought with it some stability problems. The vehicles were equipped with Toyota and BMW engines, the latter being inferior to the Japanese double-camshaft engines due to the single-camshaft principle.
Even the cost-effective use of mass-produced parts such as the central throttle valve of the BMW 3.0 CSi did not necessarily contribute to the competitiveness of the straightened engine from the BMW 2002 , which had its problems above all with its pulling power. Flanged to it was a Hewland Mk IV gearbox with five gears, which initially transferred the power to the rear wheels via Hardy disks on the drive shafts (which were often later replaced by constant velocity joints).
Just like its successor, the 723 , the vehicle did not achieve any major successes , it was only with the 733 that the model became more mature and successful.
