Marcus Antonius Antyllus

Marcus Antonius Antyllus (* 47 BC in Rome ; † 30 BC ) was the eldest son of the Roman triumvir Marcus Antonius and his wife Fulvia . His nickname Antyllus means little Antonius .

After the death of his mother in exile in Greece in Sikyon 40 BC. BC Antyllus and his brother Iullus Antonius grew up with their stepmother Octavia , Octavian's sister , in Athens . At the age of ten, Antyllus was engaged to Iulia , Octavian's two-year-old daughter.

Since 36 BC BC he accompanied his father on his campaigns and to Egypt, while the younger siblings stayed with Octavia. After the defeat of Antony and Cleopatra in the Battle of Actium (31 BC) and the couple's return to Alexandria, the young people Antyllus and Caesarion became the leaders of the Egyptians, supposedly to encourage them in the already hopeless fight against Octavian presented. On the occasion of the award of the toga virilis for Antyllus, a big festival was held. Meanwhile, Octavian occupied Egypt.
