Marcus Octavius (Tribune 133 BC)
Marcus Octavius was a Roman politician of the late 2nd century BC. Chr.
He was friends with Tiberius Gracchus and like this tribune in 133 BC. When Gracchus introduced his agricultural laws, which many felt to be revolutionary , Octavius blocked them by intercession despite the friendship at the insistence of the landowners concerned (to which he himself belonged) . After Gracchus had not succeeded in persuading Octavius to withdraw the objection, he had him removed from the popular assembly because he had acted against the interests of the Roman people.
123 BC Chr. Tiberius' brother Gaius Gracchus wanted to introduce a law that would have forbidden deposed public officials to apply again for public office, but he withdrew it at the request of his mother Cornelia . However, there is still no other office attested for Marcus Octavius.
