Marcus Silius Messalla
Marcus Silius Messalla was a Roman politician and senator in the late 2nd century AD.
Messalla was a suffect consul in 193 (occupied for the months May to June) . The order of the approaching Septimius Severus was reported to this consul that the murderers of Pertinax were to be placed under arrest; In the Senate meeting convened by Messalla in the Athenaeum below the Capitol, Didius Iulianus was sentenced to death, Septimius Severus was proclaimed emperor and Pertinax was deified.
It is possible, but not certain, that the senator is identical to that Silius Messala who was sentenced to death by Elagabal in the year 218 .
