Dormition Cathedral (Astrakhan)
The Mary Dormition Cathedral (also: Assumption Cathedral or Assumption Cathedral ; Russian Успенский собор or Собор Успения Пресвятой Богородицы ) in Astra Chan , Russia , the center of which is Astrakhan Kremlin .
It was first built in 1602. It was given its current form between 1698 and 1710 according to plans by the serf Dorofej Myakisew. On an elevated plateau, the two-story, in dominated Byzantine style held cathedral with five domes, the overall picture of the Kremlin. The cathedral is 75 meters high and occupies an area of 1790 square meters. Inside are the graves of Metropolitan Iosif, the patron saint of Astrakhan, who was murdered in 1671 by the rebellious Cossacks of Stenka Razin . The graves of two Georgian rulers from the 18th century, Teimuras II and Watchtang VI, are also located there.
The church has been renovated and is in good condition.
