Dormition Cathedral

The Mary Dormition Cathedral (also: Assumption Cathedral or Assumption Cathedral ; Russian Успенский собор or Собор Успения Пресвятой Богородицы ) in Astra Chan , Russia , the center of which is Astrakhan Kremlin .

It was first built in 1602. It was given its current form between 1698 and 1710 according to plans by the serf Dorofej Myakisew. On an elevated plateau, the two-story, in dominated Byzantine style held cathedral with five domes, the overall picture of the Kremlin. The cathedral is 75 meters high and occupies an area of ​​1790 square meters. Inside are the graves of Metropolitan Iosif, the patron saint of Astrakhan, who was murdered in 1671 by the rebellious Cossacks of Stenka Razin . The graves of two Georgian rulers from the 18th century, Teimuras II and Watchtang VI, are also located there.

The church has been renovated and is in good condition.
