Maria Dobroniega ( Russian Мария Добронега ; * around 1011/25; † 1087 ) was the wife of Duke Casimir I of Poland .

origin

Maria Dobroniega came from Kievan Rus . Their origin and year of birth have not been passed down. It is possible that she came to Poland in 1018. As a father come into question

Marriage and offspring

Maria married the Polish heir to the throne Casimir I Karl around 1041 . They had several children:

  • Bolesław II, called the Bold (* 1042 - 22 March 1081), who renewed the kingship in Poland,
  • Władysław I. Herman (* 1043 - † June 4, 1102), who ruled Poland as Duke after the overthrow of his brother Bolesław in 1079
  • Mieszko (* 1045, † 1065), Duke of Kujawy (1058-1065)?
  • Swatawa (Polish Świętosława ; * 1046/48; † September 1, 1126), married to Vratislav II. King of Bohemia , first queen.
  • Otto (* 1047/48, † 1048)

  3. Thietmar von Merseburg reports that Bolesław Chrobry abducted nine daughters of Vladimir I to Poland in 1018, their name was not mentioned. It can also have come to Poland later until 1041.
  4. The dates of life are very far apart. But it was most commonly suspected in the older genealogical literature because of the action of 1018.
