Marianus

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Marianus is a male name .

Origin and meaning

Marianus (female form Mariana ) is Latin , derived from the Roman gentile name Marius meaning "belonging to Marius, Marier", and was also worn as a cognomen . In Christianity, where the name was adopted as a baptismal name, it crossed itself with the derivation marianus from the name Maria and thereby assumed the secondary meaning "belonging to Maria (the mother of Jesus) , Marians". The derivation from the name of Mary is also the basis for the honorary title of Johannes Duns Scotus Doctor Marianus .
