Marianus Arokiasamy
Marianus Arokiasamy (born August 31, 1927 in Pudur Uthamanur near Tiruchirappalli , Tamil Nadu , † March 22, 2007 ) was Archbishop of Madurai .
Life
Arokiasamy was ordained a priest on December 7, 1954 after completing his theology studies and philosophy doctorate in Rome . 1970 he was by Paul VI. appointed Bishop of the Diocese of Kottar , in 1987 John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of the Archbishopric Madurai. In 2003 his resignation was granted by John Paul II.
Arokiasamy was significantly involved in the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965. In the Indian state of Tamil Nadu , he founded the “Forum of United Minorities”.
