The Roman Catholic Diocese of Kottar ( lat. : Dioecesis Kottarensis ) is in India situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Nagercoil .

history

The diocese of Kottar was on May 26, 1930 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ad pastorale from cessions of territory of the diocese of Quilon and subordinated to the archdiocese of Verapoly as a suffragan . On September 19, 1953, the diocese of Kottar was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Madurai as a suffragan.

The tomb and cult site of the martyr Devasahayam Pillai (1712–1752), who was beatified on December 2, 2012, is located in St. Francis Xavier's Cathedral in Nagercoil (formerly Kottar ).

On December 22nd, 2014, the southeastern part of the diocese was separated to establish the Kuzhithurai diocese .

The diocese of Kottar comprises parts of the Kanyakumari district in the state of Tamil Nadu .
