Nazarene Soosai

Nazarene Soosai (born April 13, 1963 in Rajakkalamngalamthurai , Tamil Nadu ) is an Indian clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Kottar .

Life

Nazarene Soosai first attended the boys' seminary in Nagercoil and then studied at the seminary in Poonamallee . On April 2, 1989, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Kottar .

In addition to pastoral work, he was prefect of studies and secretary of the diocesan commission for vocational pastoral care from 1990 to 1992 . From 1998 to 2000 he studied at the Catholic University of Leuven and obtained a licentiate in theology. After further studies from 2000 to 2003 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, he was awarded a Dr. theol. PhD . He also received a Masters Degree in Political Science from Madurai Kamaraj University . From 2003 to 2011 he was dean and professor of theology at the seminary in Poonamallee and, since 2012, pastor at the Shrine of Our Lady of Ransom in Kanyakumari and dean of the Kanyakumari Vicariate. He was also a visiting professor in Poonamallee and at various other universities and institutes.

Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Kottar on May 20, 2017. His predecessor Peter Remigius donated him the episcopal ordination on June 29 of the same year in Nagercoil . Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Madurai , Antony Pappusamy , and the Bishop of Varanasi , Eugene Joseph .
