Marie Vachková

Marie Vachková , (* 1954 in Kralovice , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech Germanist and lecturer in German linguistics at Charles University in Prague .

Life

Marie Vachková studied German and Swedish at the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague. In 1979 she completed her studies with the work The Relationship between Individuals and Society in the novels "Verdi" and "The forty days of Musa Dagh" by Franz Werfel . In 1996 she did her doctorate with the thesis German adjectival privatives in a confrontational view ( using the example of the formation of rows on -arm, -frei, -leer, -los) .

Research priorities

In her linguistic research, Marie Vachková deals in particular with the lexicology , word formation and lexicography of German as well as with phraseology , corpus linguistics and contrastive stylistics . However, she is also interested in new trends in cognitive linguistics and translation studies .

In 2000 she founded the project of the Great German-Czech Academic Dictionary. This lexical database for the language pair German and Czech is being created in the Lexicographical Section at the Institute for Germanic Studies of the Philosophical Faculty of Charles University in Prague . The editorial team aims to combine metalexicographical research with practical lexicographical work and with the help of modern corpus-linguistic tools that are being developed at the Institute for the German Language in Mannheim .

Marie Vachková has been the scientific editor of Germanistica Pragensia (AUC Philologica) since 1998. She has also been a member of the European Association for Lexicography EURALEX since 1997, a member of the Germanist Association of the Czech Republic since 1999, a member of the international scientific council at the Institute for German Language, Mannheim, and since 2008 a member of the German Language Institute's editorial board Language .
