Marienbrunnen

The Marienbrunnen is a fountain in the Upper Bavarian district town of Starnberg .

history

The pharmacist Vinzenz Gresbek, who ran a drugstore in a villa across from the train station , vowed to build the fountain if his wife would give him a daughter after four sons. His wish was fulfilled in 1912. A few months after the girl's birth, the fountain was inaugurated on Christmas Day 1912 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary .

The design comes from the Munich art professor Friedrich Grombach , the relief from the Austrian sculptor Michael Rauscher .
