Marienlinde (Telgte)

Marienlinde in Telgte, August 2013

The Marienlinde (also "fat linden tree") is a presumably 750 year old, listed linden tree in Telgte . This makes it one of the oldest trees in Germany. The striking summer linden tree is the last of originally three Torlinden trees and stands as a tree veteran at the Münstertor, the northern city gate of Telgte. According to legend, the Telgter miraculous image was carved out of its wood . This, as well as her age, made her an object of religious worship.
