The Markt + Technik Verlag publishes an extensive range of books and software. The focus is on IT specialist literature as well as guides and non-fiction books on the subjects of entertainment, photography, multimedia and business. This spectrum is supplemented by a diverse range of application software and games.

history

The publishing house was founded in 1976. The publisher became known in the 1980s and 1990s with products such as the computer magazines 64'er , Power Play , Happy Computer and Computer Personal , specialist books and software for home computers , in particular the Commodore 64 (e.g. distribution of dBASE and GEOS ), as well as compendia for Programming languages and PC application programs .

In 1984 the company was converted into an AG and also went public .

In the 1990s, the book business was separated from the magazine business. The magazines were initially outsourced to the subsidiary Magna Media Verlag AG and later (around 1998) incorporated into WEKA-Computerzeitschriftenverlag GmbH , which until today (as of 2019) u. a. the magazine Markt & Technik publishes.

In February 2013, Pearson Deutschland GmbH informed the authors that they wanted to cancel the publishing contract for economic reasons. From summer 2013 it is planned to stop publishing new books on computer and photography topics because they want to get involved in the education market. In Germany, the well-known brands Addison-Wesley and Markt + Technik are affected. Sales will be maintained until the end of 2013.

In May 2014, Braun Handels GmbH bought up the rights to the Markt + Technik brand as well as the rights to all book series from the past and re-established Markt + Technik Verlag.

Markt + Technik Verlag GmbH is now owner-managed. The company's headquarters are in Burgthann (district of Nürnberger Land).
