Martin Grabmann Institute
The Grabmann Institute ( Martin Grabmann Research Institute for Medieval Theology and Philosophy since the end of the fathers' days ) is a research facility at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich . It is named after the researcher of medieval philosophy and theology of the 20th century, Martin Grabmann (1875–1949). It was brought into being in 1953 by Michael Schmaus (1897–1993), Grabmann's successor at the Munich Chair for Dogmatics and the History of Dogma.
The aim of the institute is - in the tradition of Grabmann - the research of medieval theology and philosophy from theological and dogma-historical point of view. The combination of a historical and a systematic approach following Grabmann's work approach is characteristic of the institute.
The organ for the publications of the institute are the "Publications of the Grabmann Institute for Research into Medieval Theology and Philosophy" (from 1958 to 1966 "Communications of the Grabmann Institute of the University of Munich").
