Clifford Martin McKee (born July 11, 1956 ) is a British medic . He is Professor of European Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine .

McKee studied medicine at Queen's University Belfast and then specialized in internal medicine and public health . He founded the European Center on Health of Societies in Transition , which he also headed for a long time, and is Research Director of the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies , a cooperation between various universities, state institutions and international organizations. He was President of the UK Society for Social Medicine and the European Public Health Association .

As of August 2020, McKee was involved in more than 1,100 research papers and the publication of 46 books and was cited more than 115,000 times according to Google Scholar . His h-index at this point was 144.

McKee has received many awards for his lifetime achievement. In addition to the award of various prizes, he was elected to the UK Academy of Medical Sciences and the National Academy of Medicine of the United States, received several honorary doctorates and was appointed Commander of the Order of the British Empire by the Queen . He is also included in the list of Highly Cited Researchers. A study published in 2014, which looked at research trends in the field of health system research from 1900 to 2012, identified McKee with 48 papers as the most productive authors in this research field.
