Matambwe

Matambwe is a settlement in the northwest of the Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania .

In Matambwe there is a main entrance to the protected area (in the extension of the Morogoro slope ), the administration of the game reserve and the headquarters of the rangers. The only permanent residents of the settlement are the rangers and employees of the protected area administration and their families, a total of around 500 people. In addition, there are often scientists, mostly biologists and geologists, and occasionally film teams and their employees. There are regular scheduled flights with propeller planes to Dar es Salaam from the nearby airstrip .

tourism

A mid-range lodge with accommodation for 40 tourists is about six kilometers away. From there, u. a. Safaris started in the national park.

Special

Matambwe is also a Bantu ethnic group in Tanzania and Mozambique, also called Makonde . However, their clans were split up by the tribe of the Wagoni. The Matambwe now live widely in Tanzania.
