Matar (potter)

Matar , Punic Mtr , was a Punic potter .

Matar is only known from a signature on a vessel that was found in Motya . Neither the vessel itself nor the circumstances of the find allow a more precise dating, so the life and creative time of Matar is not known more precisely. It is the only Punic signature of a potter and one of the few Punic artist's signatures at all.
