Matra MS680

The Matra MS680 was a sports car prototype , the Matra in 1974 when 24-hour race at Le Mans began.

The MS680 was the last sports car to be developed at Matra and remained a one-off. The only MS680 was based on a converted MS670C chassis. The 3-liter Matra 12-cylinder engine served as the engine. The car received a new body that was more angular than that of the previous prototypes.

The MS680 was tested extensively before the Le Mans race and achieved good times. However, the car was no faster than the MS670C. Originally, Matra had planned to convert a second MS670 chassis, but this was abandoned after the tests. Only one car was used at Le Mans. The bolide was driven by Jean-Pierre Beltoise and Jean-Pierre Jarier . Matra soon had problems with the MS680's engine temperature during the race, which led to the car failing after 104 laps.

Matra retired from international motorsport at the end of 1974 and the vehicle was no longer used. Today the MS680 is in the Musée Matra in Romorantin-Lanthenay .
