Mattea

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Mattea is a female given name of Hebrew origin. The male version of the name is Matthew.

Origin and meaning

The feminine form of the name Mattea (or Matthäa) is derived from the male Hebrew name Matthew. Matthäus and Matthias are short forms of the biblical name (Greek) Mattathias, which in turn is derived from the Hebrew name Mattitjah (u). Mattitjah (u) means “given by YHWH ”, which in modern times is often modified into “God's gift”.
