Matthias Höpfner (born December 30, 1975 in Erfurt ) is a former German bobsleigh driver . His position was a pilot.

Career

Höpfner's bobsleigh career began in 1994 when he supported heavily on a toboggan and then finished with this sport. From then on he specialized in bobsleigh . In 2002 he became two-time junior world champion. A year later, he won the German championship in two and four-man bobsleigh. His hometown club was the SC Oberbärenburg , later he started for the BSC Winterberg .

In December 2008 Höpfner suffered a torn Achilles tendon and had to end the season early. In August 2010 he announced his retirement from bobsleigh because of continued problems with his right leg.

Höpfner achieved his greatest success at the 2008 World Cup in Altenberg. There he started in a foursome and won the bronze medal.
