Matthias Schmieder

Matthias Schmieder (born February 25, 1952 in Oberzüge ) is a German scientist, author and entrepreneur.

Life

After training as a tax assistant at the Freiburg tax office, Matthias Schmieder studied business administration at the Pforzheim University of Applied Sciences from 1973 to 1976, business administration from 1977 to 1979, and economics at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt from 1979 to 1982 . In 1981 he began studying for a doctorate on a scholarship from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation . In 1984 he received his doctorate from Goethe University with a thesis on accounting with capital values. After completing his doctorate, he worked in the department for strategy development and investment controlling at the headquarters of Deutsche Bank AG. This was followed by activities as commercial managing director in medium-sized software companies with a total of 8 years.

In 1996 Schmieder was appointed to the chair for business administration and controlling at the Eberswalde University of Applied Sciences. Since 1998 he has been teaching corporate management and controlling at the Technical University of Cologne . His main research interests are the exploration of hidden champions, business excellence and especially benchmarking. In 2006 he founded the training and consulting company Six Sigma Deutschland GmbH.

In addition to his professorship, he is also a member of the board of “Wohnen imbesitz e. V. “Since 2007 he has been a member of the board of the INeKO Institute for NeKO an institute at the University of Cologne for the development of personal and interpersonal skills. In 2012 he founded the Benchmarking Center Europe at INeKO. The Benchmarking Center Europe carries out business benchmarking with a focus on process benchmarking in Europe. Through the cooperation with APQC (Houston), the benchmarking center has access to data and competencies of the benchmarking authority worldwide. In 2018 he founded the online pet portal Happy-Pet.Club GmbH & Co KG, which connects pet owners with each other. The portal consists of a business directory for service providers for pet owners (veterinarians etc.), a magazine and a classifieds directory.

Schmieder lives in Cologne and is married.
