Mauling
The fights for ranking between the workers of a hornet or wasp colony , in which a hierarchy is built up, similar to the pecking order in chickens, are called Mauling . The term comes from the English-language specialist literature; to maul means "to do badly", "to abuse".
During the Mauling, the fighting animals nibble each other violently. The lower-ranking worker always signals her "submissiveness". The Mauling is a specialized form of comment fight .
