Mauritius Church Wiernsheim
"Bomb bell" made from the shell of an air mine.

The Protestant Mauritius Church in Wiernsheim was built in 1149 as the successor to a wooden church built around 800. The Romanesque church is 25 meters long and has a 35 meter high tower. It was badly damaged in a bombing raid on April 14, 1945 and repaired from 1949 to 1951.

From 1949 to 1962, the Mauritius Church used the covers of aerial mines that fell as duds as bells. One of these bells is exhibited as a memorial next to the church.
