Media Resource Control Protocol (MRCP for short) is an IETF standard for access to language software in distributed systems or on the Internet. The protocol enables remote control and external control of voice resources.

It defines the exchange of language and control information in client-server environments.

MRCP is used to transmit the control information, while other protocols such as RTSP ( Real-Time Streaming Protocol ) or RTP ( Real-Time Transport Protocol ) define the voice transmission.

Benefits of MRCP

  • uniformity
  • Simplification of the architecture
  • Bridges to the Internet
  • Manufacturer independence and possible combinations of different recognizers

MRCP can be used for the following software

Further development of MRCPv2

The further development MRCPv2 relies on SIP and SDP instead of RTSP .
