The Medicines and Healthcare Products Regulatory Agency ( MHRA ) is the medical licensing and regulatory authority for medicines in the UK . Her tasks include running an approval system for drugs before they are launched on the market and monitoring drugs that have already been approved on the market. She is also responsible for the risk monitoring of medical devices .

The MHRA is an executive agency of the UK Department of Health and was created in April 2003 through the merger of the Medicines Control Agency (MCA) and the Medical Devices Agency (MDA) .
