Multiple choice vocabulary intelligence test

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Multiple choice vocabulary intelligence test (MWT) is the generic term for several tests (MWT-A, MWT-B, MWT-Erstform, TPL = test for the premorbid intellectual performance level) that are structured according to the same scheme and are intended to measure the same thing.

application

The MWT versions are performance tests to measure general intelligence levels, specifically crystallized intelligence . They can be used as individual and group tests for adults. They are used to collect a sample of knowledge, which makes only minor demands on the currently available performance. Therefore the results are hardly influenced by mild to moderate mental disorders (intelligence trace test). In such conditions, MWT versions are used to estimate the premorbid intelligence level. This applies, for example, to mental disorders, but also depression and dementia .

Taking the test takes about five minutes for psychiatrically normal people.

The most common version is the MWT-B, which is described in more detail below as an example for all MWT versions.

Structure of the MWT-B

The MWT-B consists of brief instructions for the test person to find out in each of the following lines whether there is one of the presented words. If necessary, this should be crossed out. According to the multiple choice principle, each line contains a word that is known colloquially or in scientific language among four fictitious new constructions. Examples (slightly changed):

Oher - Ear - Honor - Ereh - Hor
Sukiff - Fasek - Siuke - Treasury - Fuske
Nadir - Ridan - Nailer - Radin - Nidar

The total of 37 items are arranged according to the level of difficulty. The total number of correctly ticked lines is compared with the performance of a representative sample of German-speaking adults aged 20 to 64 ( n  = 1,952). Then standards ( IQ , standard value and percentage rank) can be determined.

Evaluation and interpretation

With the MWT-A and TPL there are parallel forms. While with the MWT-A as with the MWT-B you get IQ points, standard values and percentile ranks, the TPL provides an estimate of the capacity of the main memory (= short storage capacity ) in the unit of measurement bit.
