from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Meifu Shinkage-ryū ( Japanese 明 府 真 影 流 ) is a modern Shurikenjutsu school that was founded in the 1970s by Chikatoshi Someya ( 染 谷 親 俊 , Someya Chikatoshi ). It finds its roots mainly in the Shurikenjutsu of the Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū ( 天 真正 伝 香 取 神道 流 ).

description

Meifu Shinkage-ryū is a modern Shuriken-Jutsu school. It was founded in the 1970s by Chikatoshi Someya. Someya was a student of the Katori Shinto-ryu under Yoshio Sugino. Even if the throwing style used in Meifu Shinkage-ryū differs from that used in Tenshin Shōden Katori Shintō-ryū, Someya-sensei took this technique from Katori Shintō-ryū and refined it by making it shorter, faster and executed even more covertly.

Meifu Shinkage-ryū is a relatively small school with about 30 permanent students who train in Tokyo under the direct guidance of the current sōke , Yasuyuki Ōtsuka. This school consists almost exclusively of students who also train other martial arts.

There is a special type of shuriken called the Meifu Shinkage-ryū shuriken, but Ōtsuka also teaches the use of other shuriken. For this reason, his students often train with Shuriken of many different, mostly already extinct, styles.
