action

The narrator tells of his uncle Sosthene, who, as a free spirit, was averse to the church and who was enraged by the sight of a clergyman. When Uncle Sosthene falls ill, the narrator decides to play a trick on him. He asks a Jesuit priest to hear his uncle's confession, but makes it a condition that he must not tell the uncle who informed him about the uncle's illness. Unfortunately, the fun doesn't end as expected: the uncle believes that the father has miraculously learned of his health, is converted and changes his will in favor of the father.
