As masters of the black eyes ( Dutch Zwarte-ogen-meesters ) are a number of late medieval illuminators who were active in the late 15th and early 16th centuries, especially in the west of the Netherlands, the county of Holland . The artists not known by name are named after a style element they share, dark shadows with which they emphasize the eyes of their figures. Above all, they created illuminated books of hours and operated a leading book production of their time. Work by members of the group was spread as far as England.

Over 70 manuscripts by the masters of the black eyes are still preserved today. The work is at the end of the heyday of Dutch book illumination.
