Master of the Twelve Apostles

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

As the master of the twelve apostles , a Cologne painter of the Gothic period was described in art history . The artist of the late 15th century, unknown by name, got his emergency name after a work that is now in the Alte Pinakothek in Munich. It depicts twelve apostles and John the Baptist. Today, however, the master is usually equated with the master of the Lyversberg Passion and the picture of the apostle and works previously ascribed to him are attributed to this painter, who is also unknown by name, or at least referred to as being from his school. Thus, for a master of the twelve apostles, no independent artistic personality has prevailed.
