Master of the Altar of Priesitz
Master of the Altar of Priesitz is the emergency name of the late Gothic carver who created the winged altar of the Elbschifferkirche in Priesitz on the Elbe . The altar was donated by boatmen from Bohemia who stopped their journey to prayer in this church. The master, who is not known by name, carved seven figures for her devotion , a Madonna and Child surrounded e.g. B. by Saints Adalbert of Prague and Wenceslaus of Bohemia , especially venerated in Bohemia, as well as Saint Christopher , especially venerated in the Middle Ages as the patron saint of travelers.
The altar and its original painting were badly damaged during the Elbe flood in 2002 and can now be seen in the church after being restored.
