The Master of Trebon , Czech Mistr třeboňského Oltare was the most important representative of the Czech school of painting in the second half of the 14th century.

It is named after some panels from the Passion story from around 1380 , which were originally located as an altar in the Augustinian canons' monastery in Wittingau . Today they can be seen in the National Gallery in Prague . His painterly qualities lie in the new form of light painting, which was achieved through fine glazes . He no longer designs from the detail like the master of Hohenfurth , but from the context: the picture space and the picture are one. The forms do not develop side by side, but they penetrate and increase into a visionary experience.

The three remaining panels of the polyptych depict scenes from the Passion of Christ: "Christ on the Mount of Olives", the "Entombment" and the "Resurrection". They come from the weekday page of the retable, which can be seen from the fact that the painter used a red and not a gold-colored background.

The master of Wittingau is the innovator of the content and formal design in painting, but above all as a colorist the outstanding artist in Central Europe between 1350 and 1400. At the same time, he paves the way for the " soft style ".
