Melchior Shi Hongzhen
Melchior Shi Hongzhen ( Chinese 石 鴻 禎 ; * January 7, 1929 ) is a Catholic bishop of Tianjin .
Life
He was secretly consecrated in March 1982 as one of two auxiliary bishops for Tianjin Diocese.
Bishop Stefano Li Si-de died in 2019 and since Melchor Shi Hongzhen was a coadjutor with succession rights, he is considered the new bishop under Catholic canon law. However, this is unrealistic as the communist authorities impose conditions Shi is unlikely to meet (joining the Chinese Catholic Patriotic Association ) and because he was 90 years old in 2019.
